Time
What is time?
Albert Einstein was supposed to have said, “The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.”
But the statement first appeared in March 1919 in a story titled “The Girl in the Golden Atom” by Ray Cummings: “How would you describe time?”
The Big Business Man smiled. “Time,” he said, “is what keeps everything from happening at once.”
“Very clever,” laughed the Chemist.
In 1921 the same author, Ray Cummings, included this in his story “The Time Professor” from “Argosy All-Story Weekly”: “I do know what time is,” Tubby declared. He paused. “Time,” he added slowly—-“time is what keeps everything from happening at once. I know that—-I seen it in print, too.”
And in 1962, famous science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke wrote a similar comment about space in his non-fiction book “Profiles of the Future”: “Space, someone once remarked with great acuteness, is what stops everything from being in the same place.”
So time and space may have something in common.
Both can be barriers.
Space is a barrier for people on Earth who wish to create an effect on Mars.
But, to me, time seems to be the greater barrier.
The difficulties in predicting the future are obvious.
And it seems impossible to change the past.
Although we can have goals and dreams for the future, things tend to deteriorate as time goes on.
Time takes things away from us, even our bodies.
So there is a necessity to get things done fast.
And that is true of ExoTech.
We are on the verge of creating a whole new world of technology.
But we are also in a race against those who would use technology to control and enslave.
Which side will win?
