Juan Najera-Coto
Juan Najera-Coto is a musician from Costa Rica, with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. He was an active performing artist for more than 20 years, before becoming the General CEO of the National Directorate of Bands of the Ministry of Culture and Youth of Costa Rica, from 2014 to 2018. A professional clarinetist, he was Principal Clarinet with the Concert Band of Cartago, Costa Rica.
He has also taught music at high-school and college levels and conducted both student and professional ensembles on various occasions. His most recent projects as a music director and conductor were the productions of two major musicals in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica: “Chicago” (2017 and 2018), and “Cabaret” (2019).
He attended the University of Costa Rica, and Indiana University – Bloomington, Indiana, as a Fulbright Scholar.
Besides music, Juan has a great interest in developing his many skills and has taken courses in marketing (including digital marketing and social media management) and sales, graphic design and photography, as well as management and strategic planning. Juan speaks Spanish, English and German fluently.
