ChatGPT – So What!!
Shawn gave an excellent presentation a couple of weeks ago on this new thing on the technology front, called ChatGPT. The first thing I would say about this is that they need to find a better name for it. I mean, ChatGPT???
Now, the big question is, how does the launch of this “amazing” product impact ExoTech. Well, let’s have a look at what it does. There are apparently four things that it can do, according to a seemingly well-informed video on the subject.
Firstly, you can use it to explain complex concepts or subjects. Well, that sounds pretty cool. It will even change the style to be more suitable and understandable for a child.
So, it does seem to do a pretty good job of stringing words together and can change the theme and style of the words chosen on command, which is kind of neat.
The second thing you can do with ChatGPT is to “use it like an AI copywriter”. At least, that’s what they say, and I assume this means an artificial intelligence device that can write copy; like ads, promo docs, and such. This is like an extension of the first one – explaining concepts or subjects. It’s ability to put words together in different ways means you can use it to create copy for ads, or blogs, and so on. Even if you like to write such things yourself, this will give you an excellent start that you can build on.
There’s probably a lot of school students who will find that particularly useful, although it might give teachers a bit of a headache. “Excellent article, John, but did you write this, or did you use ChatGPT?” Good luck with that one.
The third area that is highlighted is the ability to use ChatGPT to generate copy for marketing. This is creating content for blog posts, web ads, and such, so this is a similar thing to the AI copywriting function just covered. More skill with words.
And the fourth thing is its ability to fix and to generate computer code, including the building of a website, which is, of course, based on computer code. Once again, pretty cool stuff. So, someone has generated all of the data necessary to enable it to do that, so now you can ask ChatGPT to write some computer code for you. Great!
So, what we are dealing with here is a comprehensive tool for working with words. But what has that to do with ExoTech?
Well, let’s have a look this: if you hear that some automobile manufacturer has just released a vehicle that not only drives itself, but can go do the shopping for you too, and millions of people go into a frenzy over it, would that impact ExoTech?
No, of course not. It’s nothing to do with ExoTech.
If some aircraft manufacturer announces that it is going to produce a new passenger aircraft that will fly 5 times faster than today’s passenger aircraft do, and everyone goes wild over this and millions of people buy shares in that company, does that impact ExoTech?
No. Not in the least.
If some 4-year-old performs Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1 to the applause and amazement of millions, does that impact ExoTech?
No. Just because millions of people suddenly jump on something only means that the “something” is quite remarkable indeed. It does not mean that it will impact areas way outside its spere of influence.
None of these things; to do with smart vehicles, fast aircraft, or amazing child pianists, have anything to do with ExoTech and what we are achieving. And neither does ChatGPT.
Have a look at it. It’s a very smart app that has been fed with hundreds of thousands of words and some rules on how to string them together. Great! But here’s the point. It’s just an app. In fact, if it’s still around when we launch, it may even be available on the ExoBrain as one of the many apps you can choose to load.
So, it’s not a whole new computer platform that will change the way we all work with all the apps we love, or need to use, making them easier, faster, and much more friendly to people.
As amazing as it is, ChatGPT is some other technology. Good luck to them. But they are not producing a new computer platform that will totally change the way in which everyone will work with their computers in the future. And ChatGPT is not creating a system that will relate to people in the same way that people relate to each other. In addition to that, they are not creating a computer system that will assist people to do their jobs better, rather than replace them in that job entirely.
…
But we are!
So, ChatGPT? So what!!
